Updates from the Dreamweaver World PLUS Travel Trips for Your Summer Vacations!

It has been a very long few months with lots of exciting new challenges for Dreamweaver. From website builds to social media management, video editing, logo creation for a couple really awesome small businesses, and resume building, work has been steady and fun along the way!

Something I love about doing the work that I do, is that I can take it with me on the go. This month saw myself and my Mom drive across the country from Ontario, through the United States, and up to Regina, Saskatchewan for a family matter that needed our attendance. While I was unable to take on new projects during that week (like I had hoped I would be able to), I was able to keep an eye on things that were already on the go and answer a question here or there that needed my attention.

I want to extend a very sincere thank-you to all my clients for being understanding of this last minute trip I needed to take to be with my family. Between a 52 hour round-trip road trip that included an extension due to major issues with my vehicle (that almost saw me abandon it in Regina), last week was stressful to say the least. A number of you, plus family and friends, reached out to offer help when I was out in Saskatchewan and you have no idea what that means to me. So thank-you very much for being the amazing people that you are!

That said, I have learned a few things and I want to share them with you so that your travels this summer are safe and fun:

1. Don't assume your older vehicle will make it. If you have the ability, take the newer vehicle or at the very least have the older one checked out before you leave.

2. You CAN return a rental car when it smells like old sweaty gym socks and they will give you a new one (or at least in my case they did)

The smell: Picture smelly gym socks mixed with laundry that was left in the washing machine for three weeks. As a side note, Budget Rent-A-Car was really helpful in getting this issue resolved.

3. Whatever your budget is for your trip, double it.

4. Plug-in coolers for the vehicle are the bees-knees and every road trip needs one.

This is Sully, my plug-in cooler. He was a lifesaver and a budget saver too.

5. Crying is ok when things go wrong; life and vehicles are unpredictable.

6. If you are traveling in the states or another country, don't forget to add a roaming package to your cell phone so you don't get dinged with high roaming fees when have to call someone for help when your vehicle decides it's too hot to continue the trip when you're already 10 hours in.

7. Smaller border crossings are quicker to get through.

8. Stop to see the cool things along your route - it's a great way to kill time when your vehicle is overheated....again.

9. For other small business owners: EVERYTHING IS CONTENT. Take that picture/video and post to your business socials. Your followers will enjoy seeing where you're at.

10. Put that bathing suit on and get in the pool/lake/ocean because you deserve to have fun too!

11. You don't have to eat out at a restaurant for every meal. Roadside charcuterie picnics are fun and they get you outside for a bit of fresh air during your trip. Plus, if your vehicle overheats and you have to let it rest for a half hour with the hood open, you have snacks to get you through the wait time.

12. Bring a tumbler that holds hot and cold liquids. They are great for transferring your slushies into so they don't melt before you get a chance to drink them and you won't have to use the yucky cardboard tampon applicator straws that disintegrate before you even start drinking your drink AND it'll stay nice and cold when you're sitting outside in 39°C+ heat, in the parking lot of the gas station waiting for your vehicle to cool down so you can get on the road again.
